My name is Emma Burns, welcome to my site. I am a person in recovery from alcohol addiction and depression, also a mental health worker, artist, writer, parent, friend…

I have both a personal and professional interest in recovery, mental health, addiction and trauma and how these issues interact. I think the route of any mental health problem or general sense of disconnection from others is strongly linked to trauma and feelings of alienation and not belonging. It has taken me a long time and a lot of work to begin to overcome some of my own traumas and sense of isolation.

That being said, I do feel I am making some progress on feeling more able to manage these feelings and to change my situation. I want to use this site to write down some of my thoughts on these general topics and to reflect on the issues that bring people to use alcohol or other substances to cope, or develop other mental health problems. I hope you find something here that makes some sense to you. If you do, please leave a comment, I’d love to hear from you.

Please browse through. I have also included a link to my book below, I’d love it if you checked it out.
